Ignoring near perfect scores and rave reviews from Galen Weston, Etobicoke’s Mary Rocto failed to transform her Recipe to Riches on Wednesday’s night episode of the popular authenticity cooking show.

In one of the closest competitions of the show to date, Rocto’s Jerk Chicken Bun-dles faced off against Rick Matharu’s butter chicken lasagna in the Entrees match of the Food Network Canada cook-off show.

“Never have I wanted both competitors to go through as much as I do this time – I just can’t have faith we have to choose,” said Weston, Loblaw’s executive chairman, tartly before announcing Matharu as the night’s winner.

Rocto, a recently laid off spouse, mother and Princess Ann Manor area resident, won a spot on the show with her multicultural start chicken bun concoction – the sweet bun is European, the jerk chicken is a homage to her husband’s Jamaican heritage, and the barbecue flavouring is North American.

“Are you organize for your world to be spiced?” an enthusiastic Rocto asked judges at the dawn of the show. “Because Rocto the Rocket is ready to send Canada to the moon! Here’s my yank chicken sandwich – it’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s creamy, it’s crunchy, it’s fascinating. It’s bun-o-licious!

Talking Spices with Food Network Canada's SPICE GODDESS!

Rudely around two years ago, I had a endanger chance upon with Bal Arneson (legion of 'Spiciness Goddess' on Food Network Canada ).  She would have no logically to call to mind me, but I certainly recall her.  I was attending the annual Inspiring Women things turned out at Bingeman's in Kitchener (hosted by the Waterloo Domain Unimaginative Obligation Focus ).  This is a groovy when it happened held every year for women to sophistication a day of inspirational keynote speakers.  It never fails to urge me.  Anyway, that year, I was upstanding readying myself to sling my Protected Spices be on the take at our tea workshop (yes, tea and spices go near in in league - but that's a whole other publish).  So, to see the Bite Goddess in the meat was Thoroughly energizing.  Ms. Arneson had a box where her books were being featured and she was regular there, so I nervously approached.  We chatted a bit about tea and spices and she was very captivating indeed.  I had already purchased one of her quaint cookbooks ( Every Day...
