Where in the service we had C rations and later MRE. I have heard of the freeze-dried food and food dehiderated but did learn much.

few years ago I ran across cases and cases of one gallon (?) boxes of dehydrated foods for marketing yard. I bought them dirt cheap. They have expired or those of the next year, but I ate them off and on for another four years. They were loaded with nitrogen and very well.

Our courtyard was spared the worst of Hurricane Sandy's wrath, but some people be familiar with all too well what it's like to be without power for an extended period of time.  When the lights go out, doing the favourable things quickly can help keep your food safe.

Safe food storage was the focus of a workshop Monday evening in Albemarle County.  "The Resilient Pantry" workshop taught people how to swipe sure their pantry is safe and they are prepared if the unthinkable happens.

Lorrie Delehanty with Change-over Charlottesville Albemarle said, "This is to teach you how to set up your pantry, how to maintain your pantry, how to change your stock. The kinds of foods that are available for emergency and for long-schedule storage."

There was no charge to attend the workshop, but people were asked to bring a canned food jotting for donation to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
