Food and Nutrition Services implementing changes

The Richmond County Segment of Social Services began implementing a new statewide computer database Dec. 3. The modulate, which will be coming online in stages across the state, will affect new Food and Nutrition Services applicants maddening to receive benefits.

Called NC FAST, the automated tool is designed to update the way the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the 100 county DSS offices conducts affair with clients.

NC FAST will eventually allow DSS staff to spend less heretofore performing administrative tasks and more time providing direct backing to families, officials said. The system will also help DSS staff access customer needs more quickly, determine if they are eligible, and produce faster and more for detail determinations of benefits.

During the initial process for new applications, however, the face-to-appearance process will take longer. “Currently our application interviews take about 30 minutes on common, but we expect that it may take 90 minutes or longer as we first start using NC Irresponsibly,” said Betty Jo Oliver, DSS Food & Nutrition Services supervisor.
